I used the latest ubuntu image with the latest kernel installed through apt.

Well, I thought if I don't use a RPi, I would have to use the manually compiled version generally, or not?

As you mentioned "apt", I followed the instructions HERE to add the corresponding repository to my list. But when I do
Code:
apt-get update
I get
Code:
W: Failed to fetch http://apt.pilight.org/dists/stable/InRelease  Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-arm64/Packages' in Release file
(...)
And indeed it is not there.
