JSON file definition should be validated with an editor like this:
JSON Editor Online

Copy your definition to it and you should see syntax problems directly.
Not sure if the general definition is ok for pilight.

I have a weird situation, using the most current manual I installed pilight and it seems to have no protocols dir in /usr/local/lib/pilight/ ...
However pilight starts up and there is a very basic webpage visible with one switch.
This is an example I found somewhere here and copied in the .json file.
When I try to add a protocol it always stops complaining that it can't be found, no matter what protocol I choose.
After some searching I saw how to add a nightly and that doesn't change anything.
Also strange is that when I let it read signals several switches and temperature sensors are detected and named as in the protocol pages.
Even making the protocols dir myself doesn't add-up.

Installed pilight 6 with apt-get (stable) after using V4 for a long time.
This version really is a great improvement. The new layout of the config.json with the differentiation of the devices and the gui are brilliant!

The Eventing system also is great, although it can be improved.

One weird thing I found is that using pilight-receive and pressing the button of my KaKu remote it reports a protocol (have to check which one, not @home at the moment), but in the control.json file this protocol is invalid and I have to use an other protocol ("kaku_switch" with the same "id" and "unit" though).

I also have (a) question(s) about rules.
You can, in one rule, switch more than one devices. But I have a dim-able device and a "normal switch" device that I want to change in one rule. Is there a way (that I've missed) on how to do that (I want the dim-able device "DIM TO 6" and the other device "SWITCH TO on")?

Would it be possible to split long rules over more than one line (it probably is not json-standard)? Would make those long rules far more readable..

Thumbs up!!!

Hi,

i tried the last 2 days everything what i can do, to start pilight with my testscriptet config.json.

But pilight will not start, checked with jsonlint, it is correct.
Only got answer from pilight is:
[FAIL] Starting : pilight failed!

Maybe you could help me with it.

.
see comment #13 .. using JSON Editor Online
That let you evaluate if your JSON "format" (eg. with line break) is valid!

Can I download default protocol files somewhere?
My idea is that not being able to save a new protocol could be part of my problem.
It's a Wheezy setup on a 512MB pi.
As I mentioned the nightly should be installed too, how can I start it instead of the stable?

@dutchandre
You can only install the nightly or the normal version.
For installation see http://www.pilight.org/get-started/installation/
