It's features are (from header to terminal):

This means it can allows mounting the standard 433.92 TX/RX + the filter. An IR receiver for using your standard remote control and a smart energy meter circuit. The voltage regulator is added to further reduce the noise.
Every component is placed between the Raspberry Pi and the PCB. This makes the whole thing fit in every case available. The PCB is as high as the RJ45 socket. The Hummingboard is also supported as long as you don't install the P1 Reader Terminal. As an alternative, solder a lower profile Terminal (when available) or solder the wires directly onto the PCB.
Almost the whole circuit is modular meaning that you don't have to use the smart energy meter, IR or 433.92Mhz circuits. You can also bypass the filter and voltage regulator if you want, but that's up to you. This means that you can solder what you need, and maybe only use the PCB to read your smart energy meter.
The large female header you see across the board allows easy swapping the sender / receiver / antenna / IR sensor. The ATTiny socket allows easy swapping the filter. This also means you can reuse all components already bought in the past.
At the moment, we are investigating how to reduce the costs of the various packages, but of course, it helps to know how many users are interested. The whole thing will be cheaper if we can produce them by 100's then by 25's.
Voltage Regulator
The standard 5v and 3.3v outputs of the Raspberry Pi are pretty "dirty". The voltage regulator cleans it up a little. As in, less spikes.
Headers
The pins on a GPIO are "male" headers. The headers on the PCB are female headers. So you push the PCB header onto the RPi to connect the whole thing. The same thing counts for the different swappable parts. We use a header so you can "plug-in" the sender, receiver, and IR sensor.

If you don't know what it is, just leave it off

IR
IR is used for your regular remote control of your television, dvd, cd player etc. You can configure LIRC to read the command and use the LIRC protocol subsequently to use those commands in the eventing. We are working into integrating IR support directly.
