pilight not picking up KaKu remote presses
#1
Lightbulb
Hello all,

I've been trying to get pilight to work for a while now. I'm running pilight 7.0 from the official APT repository on my RPI (started out with an RPI 2, made the switch to the 3 as of yesterday).

Connected to my RPI is a 433Mhz Superheterodyne kit I got from AliExpress (http://nl.aliexpress.com/item/Superheter...aee4a6bd76).

Installing and starting pilight worked like a charm, as did setting up the lirc device. The thing is that when I start pilight-raw I see lots of data coming by. Unplugging the receiver from the RPI results in a stop of this, plugging it in again does the opposite. From this I gather that the hardware is working and pilight is receiving data.

Yet, when I press any button on either one my 3 remotes (KaKu / COCO / KlikAanKlikUit), with pilight-daemon in debug mode, I don't see any data passing by.

Did I fail to do a step?

Does pilight-receive give you any valid output?

Well with the pilight deamon running I'm getting a valid response, such as:

Code:
root@openhab:~# pilight-receive -s
{
    "values": {
        "cpu": 44.8418839968899334,
        "ram": 0.1978786063270524
    },
    "origin": "core",
    "uuid": "0000-b8-27-eb-f7e42a"
}

Running pilight-raw with the 433Mhz receiver connector yields this:
Code:
433gpio: 182
433gpio: 78
433gpio: 164
433gpio: 71
433gpio: 164
433gpio: 69
433gpio: 167
433gpio: 156
433gpio: 79
433gpio: 163
433gpio: 71
433gpio: 164
433gpio: 68
433gpio: 165
433gpio: 155
433gpio: 79
433gpio: 166
433gpio: 70
433gpio: 166
433gpio: 181
433gpio: 80
433gpio: 155
433gpio: 78
433gpio: 167
433gpio: 70
433gpio: 168
433gpio: 70
433gpio: 164
433gpio: 154
433gpio: 78
433gpio: 163
433gpio: 72
433gpio: 166
433gpio: 69
433gpio: 167
433gpio: 155
433gpio: 78
433gpio: 195
433gpio: 71
433gpio: 66
433gpio: 171

Pressing buttons on any of my KaKu remotes doesn't seem to do a thing..

So running "sudo pilight-receive" does not show any output when you press the button on your remote?

Your assumption is correct - running pilight-receive doesn't lead to anything. It's only pilight-raw which gives me some output (as shown above).

Meanwhile I've unplugged my transmitter from the RPI, as I've read that a transmitter placed too close to the receiver might lead to heavy disturbance / interference, yielding a non-working receiver. This was to no avail however.

You're pilight-raw output seems like a incorrect connected receiver. What we see is not regular noise.

OK let's see.

My receiver features 4 pins:

GND -> RPI Pin #06 (Ground)
DATA -> RPI Pin #12 (GPIO18 / GPIO_GEN1)
DRE -> NC
VCC -> RPI Pin #02 (5V)

My /boot/config.txt contains this line:

dtoverlay=lirc-rpi,gpio_in_pin=18,gpio_out_pin=17

Thx Smile

If you use the lirc way, why didn't you configure lirc in pilight?

Actually I did.

Here's my config.json:
Code:
root@openhab:/etc/pilight# cat config.json
{
    "devices": {},
    "rules": {},
    "gui": {},
    "settings": {
        "log-level": 6,
        "pid-file": "/var/run/pilight.pid",
        "log-file": "/var/log/pilight.log",
        "webserver-enable": 1,
        "webserver-root": "/usr/local/share/pilight/",
        "webserver-http-port": 5001,
        "webserver-cache": 1
    },
    "hardware": {
        "433gpio": {
            "sender": 0,
            "receiver": 1
        }
    },
    "registry": {
        "pilight": {
            "version": {
                "current": "7.0"
            }
        }
    }
}

, my settins.json:
Code:
root@openhab:/etc/pilight# cat settings.json
{
        "log-level": 4,
        "pid-file": "/var/run/pilight.pid",
        "config-file": "/etc/pilight/config.json",
        "hardware-file": "/etc/pilight/hardware.json",
        "log-file": "/var/log/pilight.log",
        "send-repeats": 3,
        "receive-repeats": 1,
        "webserver-enable": 1,
        "webserver-root": "/usr/local/share/pilight",
        "webserver-port": 80,
        "webserver-cache": 1,
        "webserver-authentication": 0,
        "webserver-username": "",
        "webserver-password": "",
        "whitelist": "",
        "update-check": 1,
        "standalone": 0,
        "port": 5000
}

and my hardware.json:
Code:
root@openhab:/etc/pilight# cat hardware.json
{
        "433lirc": {
                "socket": "/dev/lirc0"
        }
}

Did I made a mistake here?

And you didn't notice that the config.json contains the same information as the hardware and settings?

I would suggest reading the pilight manual for the latest config structure.
