There is probably no way to prevent this. The reason is that GPIO is using low level memory access. When using the wrong platform, wiringX writes to a memory address that it shouldn't on that specific platform, thereby segfaulting. We already noticed that it's impossible to detect the right wiringX platform. Therefor there is also no way to prevent you from doing so on the wrong platform.

Very strange. Is it possible for you to try again on a clean install of your raspberry pi OS of choice, following the exact steps in the manual and posting the entire output here?

problem solved
I think you should fix it or describe it for others
1. pilight.sh wrong chmod i changed to 0755
2. wrong patch to gui i changed to "webserver-root": "/usr/local/share/pilight/webgui/"

I will release a bugfix release soon as soon as i have gathered all serious issues. Thanks for reporting the init.d chmod issue, i will include that one. I've also updated the manual with information about the new webserver root.
