What happens when you install libmbedtls-dev?

no change:
Code:
root@busterpi:/home/pi# apt-get install libmbedtls-dev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libmbedtls-dev is already the newest version (2.16.0-1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
root@busterpi:/home/pi#
same output on the ldd command.

Can you check if the generic libmbedtls.so is available?

does not look like it, but then I would not know how to categorically say it is not:
Code:
root@busterpi:/lib# apt-get install libmbedtls
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package libmbedtls

it is here:
Code:
root@busterpi:/lib# find / -name libmbedtls.so
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libmbedtls.so
but it is a sym link to v.12:
Code:
root@busterpi:/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf# ls -al libmbed*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 453892 Jan  8  2019 libmbedcrypto.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     18 Jan  8  2019 libmbedcrypto.so -> libmbedcrypto.so.3
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 317432 Jan  8  2019 libmbedcrypto.so.2.16.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     23 Jan  8  2019 libmbedcrypto.so.3 -> libmbedcrypto.so.2.16.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 191220 Jan  8  2019 libmbedtls.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     16 Jan  8  2019 libmbedtls.so -> libmbedtls.so.12
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     20 Jan  8  2019 libmbedtls.so.12 -> libmbedtls.so.2.16.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 165236 Jan  8  2019 libmbedtls.so.2.16.0

And if you symlink a 10 to that 12 as well?

I got pilight working, although I will run through all the steps again with a clean buster install as I have made so many changes.

this definitely helped:

Code:
cd /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/
sudo ln -s libmbedcrypto.so.2.16.0 libmbedcrypto.so.0
sudo ln -s libmbedtls.so.2.16.0 libmbedtls.so.10
but does not feel like a very "standard" way of installing a package.
I also had to run through at least some of these again as well:
Code:
apt-get download pilight=8.1.4-77
apt-get install pilight-webgui libunwind8 libpcap0.8 libmbedcrypto3 libmbedtls12 libmbedx509-0 libwiringx libluajit-5.1-2
apt --fix-broken install

I've updated the manual installation instructions with special note for Buster.
